Breast Reduction by Jeffrey LaGrasso, MD

Patients who undergo breast reduction surgery frequently are seeking relief from physical symptoms caused by the excessive weight of large breasts, including lower or upper back pain, poor posture, neck pain, etc... Breast reduction surgery is designed to relieve these symptoms, improve your breast size and shape, as well as allow for better fitting of your clothes.

What age should I be to undergo this procedure if I need it?
Ideally, you should wait until you have completed breast development. Also consider childbirth and breast-feeding may have unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. All these factors play into the decision between you and your board certified plastic surgeon for when you should undergo breast reduction.

What should I expect during breast reduction surgery?
This is a surgical procedure that required general anesthesia and will be completed in an operating room.  As this procedure may involve combinations of reducing skin, fat, and breast tissue, expectations of your surgical outcome will be discussed upon consultation with our board certified plastic surgeon, Jeffrey LaGrasso, MD.

What can I expect post-operatively?
Following this procedure, you can expect your breasts to be wrapped and placed in a surgical compression bra which will be worn for several weeks to protect your breasts and allow for proper healing. It is common to experience swelling, redness, soreness, bruising, and discomfort. You will be given prescription pain medication to be used as needed.

Is breast reduction covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage for this procedure depends on the nature of procedure, if its purely cosmetic vs. due to physical impairment. Our medical practice manager, Jeannie, will work with you and your insurance company after your consultation with Jeffrey LaGrasso, MD.<
