Male Gynecomastia by Jeffrey LaGrasso, MD

This is a condition defined as enlarged male breasts and it is estimated to affect 40 to 60 percent of the male population. It may affect only one breast or both. There are many potential causes of this condition, most commonly anabolic steroids, estrogen containing medication, obesity,  alcohol, marijuana, etc.  Impaired liver function and different types of cancer also may be associated with gynecomastia.

Am I a good candidate for this procedure?
Ideally, men that are generally healthy, not overly obese, and have firm elastic skin overlying breast tissue, are the best candidates. Morbidly obese patients need to demonstrate significant weight loss prior to considering this procedure.

Are the results permanent or will the gynecomastia reoccur?
Yes, the results are permanent.  Having said that, patients that develop significant obesity some time after the procedure  may develop some enlargement of the breast tissue.
